Webserver on your mobile phone?
Nokia research center has been doing research on the possibility of having a webserver on your mobile phone. The primary goals were to bring a full-fledged webserver to S60 and to make a webserver running on a mobile phone accessible from the Internet using any web browser.
I believe this is possible as for quite some time now, mobile phones can be used to access the internet. As the processing power and memory of mobile phones increase, more and more applications are possible, including having a webserver.
According to Nokia research center
Being able to run Apache on a mobile phone is rather interesting in itself but still not much more than a quirk unless it can be accessed from a browser outside the device itself. Our target was to make it possible to access a webserver running on a mobile phone, equipped with a standard operator SIM, from any browser on the Internet, at any time.
If this becomes successful, then I’m seeing a big increase in mobile blogging. Take a picture using your mobile phone, write a small caption “…this is me in Italy eating Pierre’s famous pizza”, and instantly anybody can check out your website and see what you’ve been up to.
