SNL On Cingular Handsets? Or Could It Be.. Satan?
Saturday Night Live catchphrases down through the years have included:
“Never mind!”
“Jane, you ignorant slut!”
“I’m Gumby, dammit!”
“Oh, I hate when that happens!”
And my all-time favorite:
“It’s a floor wax, and a dessert topping!”
We won’t get into any discussion here as to whether NBC’s Saturday Night Live is as good as it used to be. It’s good enough for Cingular Wireless to make a big deal out of signing a deal to add Saturday Night Live content to its Cingular Video service.
Only Cingular customers with 3G (the latest generation of data service) capability can sign up, and it’s not available throughout the country yet. But when it is, you’ll have access to both “classic” and “current” Saturday Night Live content, along with “exclusive” (not on TV) material.
There’s also a whole new collection of SNL ringtone and graphics material, available presumably to just about anyone with a handset that can use them. The ringtones will include the theme song, and “memorable sketch lines”.
We’ll see whether any of my favorite sketch lines make the cut.
