Hot Summer For Skype Handset Makers
CIO tells us that, sometime in the third quarter, there will be Skype WiFi handsets avaiable from four different manufacturers. There’ll be no difference in rates (cheap, or free) between making a Skype call on your PC or on one of these handsets, so wherever you can access WiFi you’ll be able to take your Skype service along.
The four manufacturers are Belkin, Accton Technology’s Edge-Core, Netgear, and Standard Microsystems. We actually found Netgear’s handset posted over at Club Mac, priced at $250 (but not yet available). A listing at the Skype Store promises the Netgear phone will be available in July (hey, it’s July!), for $299.99. The Netgear phone is capable of storing a contact list and promises 3 hours of talk time, standby time of 50 hours.
