Cell Phone Throwing Championship: The Thrill Of Victory, The Agony Of A Scratched Screen
When you’ve run out of rollover minutes, or if your carrier has dropped one too many calls, you may be tempted to hurl your cell phone as far as you can.
That’s the theory behind the Mobile Phone Throwing World Championship in Finland. The seventh annual competition this past weekend drew contestants from as far away as Canada.
This year’s champion had the home field advantage going for him: Lassi Etelatalo of Finland threw an obsolete Nokia 89 meters (about 97 yards). There are also freestyle events that encourage such relatively esoteric talents as cell phone juggling.
Exactly what we would expect, from the country that brought us the International Wife Carrying Competition.
