Sony Ericsson T707

Sony Ericsson T707

SE knows what their devices can and can’t do and they work within those limitations. The gesture-controlled, designer T707 is no different.

This T707 is essentially a repackaging of core Sony Ericsson phone tech over the last couple years, but in a flashy new shell. Utilizing the rear camera, you can do things like silence a call or alarm by waving your hand over the camera. And one thing I have to give SE credit for is that they always make sure the UI design is fresh looking. the backend programming may essentially be the same, but they keep updating the visuals so as not to look stale.

Other than that, the T707 has eye-catching colors, sleek design and is otherwise a wholly ordinary dumbphone.

At a press conference in China, Sony Ericsson unintentionally showed slides of as-yet-unreleased and unannounced handsets, including the T707, codenamed Elle, as well as the M610. The pages reveal the T707 is a quad-band GSM and dual-band UMTS/HSPA handset and is due to sport a 2.2-inch display. Storage will come from a 1GB Memory Stick Micro card, while the operating system will be OSE from Enea. There is still no word of when the T707 will launch, although it is expected to be fairly soon and in at least five colors.
The mistake in the presentation also involved other handsets, including the Walkman P3, which has been discontinued. The photo also did not match up with the handset’s description. Another older handset in the slides, the M610, dates back to 2007. [via NewLaunches]

Google Brings 500,000 Public Domain eBooks To Sony Readers

Sony Ebook Reader

Sony Ebook Reader

If you have a sony reader, then this is for you.

Sony is partnering with Google to offer a half-million public domain titles—already available to PC users on Google Book—to their library, making their collection the largest available for any eBook format, including the Kindle’s. Google’s contribution here, beyond scanning the books in the first place, was to convert the text to the open ePub eBook format, which allows for proper lineation and formatting—something that PDFs can’t always offer.

This doesn’t drastically change the Sony PRS v. Kindle dynamic, it could help Sony’s readers appeal to a certain special kind of luddite: the one who is somehow fine with eBooks, but for whom contemporary fiction and fancy “Whispernet” technologies, “nice screens” and “magazine subscriptions” are just a little too modern.

The Reader Digital Book holds about 160 eBooks or hundreds more with optional removable memory cards. Its portable size makes it the perfect travel companion, allowing you to read a variety of books whenever and wherever you want. With thousands of eBook titles available at the eBook Store from Sony, you can choose to download new releases, classics and popular book titles as well as view other document formats such as Adobe® PDF10, RTF, TXT, BBeB® and Microsoft® Word. Its long battery life lasts up to 7,500 continuous page turns, and the amazing paper-like screen technology is easy on the eyes. The Reader Digital Book is available in Silver, Dark Blue and Sangria Red.

Note: Use of companion eBook Store limited to U.S. and Canadian residents. Certain titles may not be available for download based on place of residence.

Ultra portable
The Reader Digital Book offers a unique, on-the-go reading experience and is the perfect travel companion. With a compact and lightweight design, you can take it almost anywhere and read your books whenever and wherever you want. More compact than many paperbacks, it weighs about 9 ounces6 (without cover), is 1/3” thin8, and holds up to 160 eBooks4. You can easily hold it in one hand, and with its rechargeable battery, you can turn up to 7,500 continuous pages on a single charge2.

Impressive, paper-like display
The Reader Digital Book provides a new way to experience reading. It boasts an impressive 6-inch display1, utilizing breakthrough E Ink® technology that’s almost paper-like, making it easy to read, even in bright sunshine. In addition, the screen allows for high contrast and high resolution, with a near 180º viewing angle. The text can also be magnified for sight-impaired readers.

Content Storage Capability
With a compact and lightweight design you can take the Reader Digital Book almost anywhere. And with plenty of internal memory, and a slot for optional removable memory cards, you can take hundreds of titles, user-selected Web content, or other supported documents for reading on the go. It will hold approximately 160 averaged sized eBooks in internal memory4 and hundreds more with optional removable memory cards.

Sony expands Walkman line with NW-S738FK and NW-S736FK

Sony Walkman

Sony Walkman

The NW-S736FK and NW-S738FK only differ with respect to internal capacity, as the former carries 4GB worth of tunes while the latter hosts 8GB.

Both will soon be available in the wonderful nation of Japan in gold, black, pink and red hues, and each will support MP3, WMA, ATRAC, WMV, MPEG-4, JPEG and AAC formats. You’ll also find a 2-inch LCD, USB 2.0 connectivity, a 5 band equalizer, FM tuner and a battery good for 40 hours of audio playback (or 10 hours on the video side). The new duo is set to ship on March 14th, and yes, those perfectly matching speaker docks seem to be included for your convenience.

Both have a 2in TFT screen, portable mini speakers (pictured) and noise cancelling headphones. They will come in 4GB and 8GB flavours, US$190 and US$230 respectively, in shades of pink, red, gold and black.

Not bad colors, for pastel, and the stats are pretty decent, having 10 hours video playback and 40 hours audio playback. Though the price is somewhat exhorbitan, at a couple hundred apiece, it included the docking station with two speakers built in. Also inclueded are the noise cancelling headphones for traffic, crowded places like the store, mall, subway or public transportation.

These would be ideal for listening to podcasts of your favorite speakers, movitation lectures, coursework or any number of things that are available on the internet.

With any number of electronics available on the market today for audio and video playback, Sony has quite a product to compete for those hardearned dollars.

Even in pastel.

The Portability of a Hardrive: Part 1

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

When one wants to buy a hardrive, keep in mind he wants one for his mobile life, he is looking for maximum size capacity as well as the lest amount of area or space.

But as you know, the smaller and more powerful a machine is the more expensive it is too. So the big method in finding a hard drive is finding one that fits your capacity levels, as well as its ability to be mobile.

With that in mind, PC World has labeled its top 10 external hardrives, based on prices, size, etc.

The first one here is only a 40GB hard drive, but as you can see, it is sleek to a level of perfection. The only bad thing about this product is its cost. At a terrible rip-off price, the Vault is at 6 dollars per Gigabyte.

You can get a laptop 120 GB hard drive for nearly 70$ and then buy a 20$ enclosure for it. Its cheaper that way, especial with the dollar per GB ratio.

A user rated this hard drive a “Superior” above all ratings, or that was the average ratings. Chances are that only a few people bought this item, hence the ratings being so high. One other good thing about the drive is that its plug and play, but I mean, that is not other than the ordinary, all things now are plug and play, who are they kidding? :P

Having come to a conclusion, I believe that this product is not worth putting on the top 10 hard drives in PC World, I don’t know why they did it, but they did.

If you ever have needs as to buying a hard drive or any other computer accessories, Newegg is the place to go. Check it out.
