AAA Batteries For Your Mobile Phone?

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

You read that right. AAA batteries may soon be the source of power for your mobile phone. That is, if Phillips Electronics does go through with their plans on creating a mobile phone that could get the much needed juice after a day’s worth of calls and messages.

The new mobile phone is called the Xenium NRG and once the phone’s power runs down, you can simply find a couple of those ordinary AAA batteries and your mobile phone would be running back to life. According to the company, their new mobile phone could actually run up to a high of three hours of talk time with just the use of an AAA battery. Hmmm… That sounds pretty interesting to me.

This could be a real big help to all people who are mighty phone talkers but own mobiles phones which run out of juice in just a short time.

Keeps Going, And Going: Philips Xenium 9@9

philips-xenium.jpg

Philips isn’t a big player in the cell phone business, but it has a big idea:  Make phones you don’t have to charge up every day.  Or every week.

These latest Philips Xenium phones are said to last 40 days and 40 nights.  Now, your battery life will vary depending on how much talking you do.  But this kind of freedom would be great for people who don’t have access to wall outlets or cigarette lighter outputs in a car.

Earlier versions of these long-lasting phones had old-fashioned black and white LCD readouts, to conserve power.  But as you can see, these latest versions have color screens.  The model pictured in the center has a 1.3 megapixel camera, and the model on the right has handwriting recognition capability and a miniSD card slot, and an mp3 player.

As long as you have to wait for these phones’ batteries to go dead, you’ll probably wait even longer for any U.S. carrier to pick them up.  Just makes you wonder why, if Philips can make ‘em go this long without a charge, why can’t other manufacturers do the same?
