Is Your Nokia Battery For Recall?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Last week, Nokia has sent out word that they are recalling 46 million of their batteries. That is why the company is now asking all owners of Nokia units to check their batteries if such are included in the recall. The cause for the recall? Nokia is saying that the mobile phone batteries are prone to overheating when they are being recharged.

There is no need to worry though for the company is going to replace the affected batteries. Also, Nokia sent out word saying that “no serious injuries or property damage have been reported however when a battery overheats, it is very much likely that it could damage the unit that it is on. Thus the need for replacement.

The model code for the batteries affected is BL-5C and it was created by Matsushita, one of the giant electronics companies in Japan. These batteries were created in between December 2005 up until November of 2006.

Mobile Phone Novels Could Make Traditional Ones Extinct?

Monday, August 20th, 2007

It seems like it. After all, if you are in Japan, you would know that most people are now preferring to have mobile phone novels rather than the conventional ones.

One of the benefits of having such mobile novels is people are now focusing again on reading. Also, another one would be that those with mobile phones need not pack in those bulky books. Anywhere they go, as long as their mobile phone is with them, the novels go with them too.

On the other hand, mobile phone novels could also kill traditional novels. How? Well, if publishers get to print the usual amount that they make but with more readers opting to have their books right in their mobile phones, the sales would go way slower and that could affect the entire business.

If you do ask me, I’d still rather stick with the conventional novels. Call me traditional or whatever but I sincerely do enjoy the whole book reading experience (and not the mobile book experience).

Mobile Phones = Hearing Loss, Not Cancer

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

We all have heard about reports claiming that mobile phones could cause long-time users cancer. However, another study has been done and some researchers are now claiming that using mobile phones for a long period of time would not cause you cancer. However, you may be suffering from loss of hearing.

This study is being conducted by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) which is based in India. The people behind the research are now saying that if you are a mobile phone user and you use your gadget for more than 30 minutes each day, you are at a greater risk of having hearing loss.

“This hearing loss was more in the dominant ear (ear of use). Presence of fullness in the ears, ear warmth, strange noises in the ear are warning signals which should not be ignored, claims Dr. Naresh Panda, the principal investigator.

Trade in Old Mobile Phones For Cash At T-Mobile

Monday, August 13th, 2007

With each new mobile phone model that comes out, the number of unused mobile phone increases. After all, who would want to use the old ones when there are even better and newer units available?

As part of T-Mobile’s campaign against unused and forgotten mobile phones, they are offering a new kind of program. This way, long forgotten mobile phones could best be recycled and maybe even be put again to use.

The program is for those mobile phone owners in Britain. If you got any mobile phone that you are no longer using, you just send these in and T-Mobile would take care of that. Plus, you would be getting some cash in return which is quite great. T-Mobile also did share that it does not matter if the mobile phone you would be sending in is working or not.

According to the company, they have decided to do such a campaign because they feel alarmed by the fact that there are 52 million units of mobile phones that have become unused.

Your Mobile Phone May Be A Bar of Soap

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

In Ghana, two people were arrested by the police because they were selling mobile phones made of soap. 22-year-old Kwadwo Addei and 20-year-old Desmond Nkwah were the two suspects of doing this crime. The arrest was also part of a move by the country’s police so as to clean up their country of illegal mobile phone dealers.

So how does their modus operandi work?

According to some reports, if you were to purchase a mobile phone, Addei and Nkwah would show you a real mobile phone which comes with the complete stuff - charger, manuals, headsets, etc. - in its box. However, when it is time to pay, these wrongdoers would switch the real mobile phone with one that is has been fashioned from soap.

That’s very wrong, of course. Who would want to pay a huge sum for a piece of soap that looks like a mobile phone and comes with its own box, manual, set of accessories, and a user’s manual? It’s still soap.

Nokia Still No. 1

Friday, August 10th, 2007

It does look like Nokia is on a roll. According to the most recently report about the industry, Nokia still owns the greatest amount of share in the whole market. The report which was released last Thursday talked about just how much Nokia was able to hold firmly to the number one spot with a market share of 37%.

Motorola which used to own the 2nd spot now moved lower and would now have to live with being in the third place. It is Samsung who moved upwards and took over the second spot. Motorola was able to achieve 13% while Samsung took on 13.7%.

Coming in at the fourth spot is Sony Ericsson who holds 9.1% and LG Electronics finds 7% and takes on the 5th rank.

These mobile phone makers’ industry shares are moving quite unpredictably and we sure would like to know next time who’s going to be ranking first and who’s going down to the very last.

More Talk On Mobile Phone Effects To Health

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

So how true really is it that mobile phones can actually bring about much damage to our health? Is this really true or is it just another urban legend?

Well, to actually answer that, another expert is going to take a stab at finding out just what really is the effect (or the effects) of mobile phones to users. Prof. Lawrie Challis is going to do the work and he says that he would be working with 200,000 mobile phone users. He says that these users should have been using such gadgets for over five years. It would be his basis for the study.

There have been previous studies of the effects of mobile phone use and one of the studies did say that there is a “marginally increased risk of certain types of brain tumor for those who have been using mobile phones for the longest time. That could still be disproved though. We’ll wait and see.

Nokia Sets Roots in India

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

It is high time that Nokia set forth in another direction and took advantage of emerging mobile phone markets while other mobile phone makers are busy trying to outbid each other with the latest technologies. But for Nokia, what they are doing is that they are setting up base in one of the world’s emerging strong mobile phone markets and this country is India.

The company has just set up shop for a new mobile phone design facility and this can be found in Bangalore, India. And by doing such, experts in the industry are already seeing Nokia take the larger share of the market.

And the people are Nokia are pretty happy about this. “Design is not just about the look and feel of the handset but equally important is what it can do for people and how it fits into their lives. Designers must be exposed to how people live and work in different places around the world, expressed Hannu Nieminen who works as the head for innovations at the newly opened Nokia Design.

Gameloft: Bringing Beowulf Straight To Your Mobile Phone

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Because of an agreement between Gameloft and Paramouny Pictures, all mobile phone users could have Beowulf in their gadgets. You see, this is going to happen soon enough after Gameloft is able to create a mobile phone game that would get its base on the upcoming film Beowulf.

The film is about to be shown in theaters all around the globe come November this year. And just in time for the movie, Gameloft is planning to release the game by that period. Excited as you may be, you would still have to wait for some months before you can get your hands on that game.

I’m pretty sure mobile phones that come using Java, Symbian or Brew could make use of the Beowulf mobile phone game. After all, the mobile phone game creator is known for making games that are compatible with such technologies.

I wonder if the movie is going to be a hit though. Because if it is, then the mobile phone game could also benefit a lot from the movie.

Mobile Phone Works As Remote For Robot Cleaner

Monday, August 6th, 2007

You always have your mobile phone in your hand, in your pocket, or somewhere just within your reach. So why not use it to actually control some appliances in your house? Think that would be impossible?

Think again.

There is a new robot cleaner that has been created and manufactured by SK Telecom. This company says that you can use your mobile phone to actually control where the robot goes and what it cleans. Interesting.

The robot is found and cleans its way - well, anywhere you want it to clean. Just push the buttons on your mobile phone and it does the dirty work for you. You would find a minute camera in the front of the robot and this would serve to be the channel wherein you can communicate with your robot cleaner.

So now it’s about the robot cleaner and your mobile phone. I wonder what else could your mobile phone control tomorrow.
