More than just a Hope for the Blind

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Are you blind? Well, of course, you aren’t, but if you know anybody that is, you can see the way that the struggle in life. Unable to drive cars, maintain proper jobs, or even get into a meaningful relationship is a hard way in life.

Well, that is how it seems to us if we were to lose our eye sight. The thing is that if someone is born blind, then they will never feel less happy than us, nor will they seem depressed about it ever. Think of it like this: Imagine someone describe to you something that you cannot relate to, or even measure to fathom.

Its a pretty simple concept: you just don’t understand what you don’t know about. And sometimes it fears us. Thats a major consistency with humans, we fear what we don’t know.

The only difference between us and blind people is that they are less fortunate because we CAN see. Imagine a world where everyone was blind, life would be completely different than it is today, yet, nevertheless, we would still be striving, and not a single person would be less happy than they are now.

The point is that what if a person who was blind, or who got blind through their life, could regain their ability to see. Thanks to technology, this is close to being possible.

Thanks to some well performed researchers in some institute of Germany (I’m lazy to type out the words :P but don’t worry I have it linked) have conjured a cornea that will replace the cornea of blind people, and once regain their ability to see.

Its days such as these where I think that technology stands out the most when it is being put to commercial and beneficial use. Now if only our economy worked that way.

Well, thats our insight here today at 451Press’s Mobility Watch. If you have any comments, please feel free to leave a message. (Any are most welcome and grandly appreciated) :D

Spy Tie

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Just as the name suggests, here is a spy tie that will let you capture video for about upto one hour. Think of all the possibilities of the tie. One could go to an interview with the tie on and record the interview.

Later he or she could come back to see the interview again to predict whether or not he or she will get hired. Amazing right?

Or maybe you are just a spy like Tom Cruise, and need something to capture video on the spot whenever it happens, but maybe you just don’t want to be suspicious by getting out your camera and start recording. Well, here is something that could essentially help you.

One scenario, that I think could really help with this is scoping out the women. Guys, I know you do it, and even women know you do it. (Thats why they make their best attempt to look good, duh:!: ) haha.

But, imagine you spot this enchantingly beautiful girl, HIT RECORD, and quick because she will most likely not stay for long. Yes it is stalking, but then again, that is the same reason why the call this product the Spy Tie. :D

Some of the negatives of this tie, though, are its cost. At a astounding $1,268, the tie is priced among one the most expensive ties made.

But, you would assume that the image quality would be bad, but is actually not. It captures images at 768 by 495 pixels. It comes with a 2.4 inch. screen to view the image.

Unfortunately, the camera battery only lasts for 1 hour, so even buying a 1GB SD card will not be filled with that 1 hour.

Wi-Fire: Access Internet 3 Times as Far!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

So, I hope that we can agree that my posts here at Mobilitywatch are not exactly what one would expect them to be all the time. In a few days I’ll be posting about something so ridiculous that it will intrigue your G-spot, women.

Men, don’t worry about it. :P :P :P

Anyways, the topic of discussion today is the new technology of Wi-Fire. Have you ever experienced a low signal on your mobile laptop notebook while surfing through the internet?

Have you ever been in that one spot where you lost Internet connection, and had to go through the process of collecting your belongings to move again to another spot?

Well, with the new device in hand, you no longer have to do so.

Wi-Fire is a range-extending USB device that will receive Internet signals as far as 1,000 Feet! That is approximately 3 times as far as your notebook can receive signals now.

Technically, you could not have to actually pay for internet with this device. Imagine if your neighbor had his internet free of access. So, that means that you can access his internet, but the only problem is that you receive a weak signal and therefore can only access the internet at random times.

But, if you have the Wi-Fire, you can use your neighbors internet as if it were your own, and also at no cost at all.

If you are a college student, this can come to you handily because you are always moving around and are in need of the internet. (not only because it is the popular thing to do now, but also because it is what you play your online games on, and connect to your friends and family.)

So, here are a few images of the Wi-Fire USB range extender. Check it. and Digg it. :D

Compact Disc: 3 Terabytes?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

If you don’t know what a terabyte is, you might want to know that it is 1000 Gigabytes. Most computers average about a 120 GB hard drive space, which is the space that you use whenever you save a file to your computer.

Right now, I’m sitting on a 350 GB hard drive, and I have another external 100 GB hard drive for my reckless use. :P

Before I tell you about this disc with 3 Terabytes, I need to help you put it into perspective of everyday real life use.

A Dual-Layered DVD has approximately 8.5 GB, this in comparative to a regular DVD holds twice as much. A regular DVD-ROM contains nearly 4.7 GB. A regular compact disc contains 700 MB, that is almost 1/5 of a DVD-ROM.

I dont want to forget the other types of DVD’s out there right now. First of all there is the HD DVD, which holds up to 15 GB(Single layer) and 30GB(Dual Layer) and 51 GB(Triple Layer) If you count up the space on these discs, you will almost get 3/4 of the average hard drive on a computer.

As sad as it is, there is another format that rivals HD DVD called Blu-Ray High Definition. Such a disc can hold 25 GB (Single layer) and 50 GB (Dual Layer.) Which ever one you pick for your movie convenience is up to you, but as of now, it looks like Blu-Ray is going to make more money that HD DVD.

Anyways, back to this compact disc that may be able to hold 3 terabytes. This disc will be able to blow everything that we currently have out of the water.

How the disc works is dependent on the type of laser used to inscribe the disc. A regular disc uses 780 nanometer wavelength, whereas a dvd uses 650 nm, and HD DVD and Blu-Ray both use 405 nanometer.

The future disc will be able to use a 40 nanometer wavelength, thus the memory capacity of 3 Terabytes. Obviously, such technology is not out just yet, but when it is, it will be in your hands for your mobile use everyday. (estimate time: LONG LONG TIME) :P

Anyways, now that you know how these things work, and what is up for our future, you can keep a lookout for it. But by then, you can see how a match catches on fire with a everyday laser.

Sony Ericsson W980

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Next to the XPERIA X1, the W980 has to be our favorite set launched by Sony Ericsson at the show. Between the stellar external display, that cool transparent accent on the front of the flip, and the FM radio that works without having to attach a headset — talk about a fantastic idea that was a long time coming — it is a stylish thing. Though, those with greasy faces beware, the W980 loves fingerprints, a lot. Oh, and as an added bonus, there’s a bit of extra tactile fun when hitting those external buttons by way of some vibration feedback. Job well done Sony Ericsson, this thing’s the berries.

Phones, Phones, Phones, Phones, and Phones. Thats what its all about these days. What does your phone have? Oh yeah? Well, you could surf the internet with mine while listening to music. :P What now? Well, for all you phone addicts out there, take this, I have the simplest NOKIA phone ever, and it runs absolutely perfect. It makes calls, recieves calls, and you can even play music on it.

At Engadget you will see that the phone has a really sick flip up. At first, when you are looking at it, it seems as if the whole screen is just open, but no:!: There is actually a lid on the can :P When you flip it up, it cares for the nice and slick interior of the phone which may or may not flip your switch, but hey I’ll bet you anything you’d love to have the phone in your hands faster than a child wants candy.

With the cool exterior music controls, its not a hassle to switch your music, no need to carry through with the functions of opening your phone up to switch to a song, or even to turn it off. Maybe someone should mention the versatality this phone has, its definitely smaller than the iPhone, and it even looks like you could fit it into your hands twice.

With this marvel, its not a wonder people are already drooling over the phone’s fantastic glossy finish.

If you have any questions, please feel free to comment as all are welcomed and appreciated here at Mobility Watch: Filling your mobility needs to the level of the Geeks at Engadge & Gizmodo. :D

Inkless Pen that never runs out?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Well, this post of Mobility Watch is a little different than what I have posting, and all of my posts are completely different from what the previous author of this site has been posting. Fortunately, I will also be covering the same areas as the previous writer, and more. More importantly, “MORE” :D

Well, actually, the case only applies to this month, because the way things are looking, it will be that I will be moving to different blogs here at the 451 Press network.

Anyways, the news today concerns a pencil of a certain type. Think about the possibilities of the pencil like that never needs any ink. The only draw back with the equation is that if you lose your pencil, someone else will be using it for the rest of their life.

Question: Inkless Pen that never runs out of Ink?
Answer: Well, of course it never runs out of ink, because there isn’t any ink to run out of. But the whole point is that you will be able to write with this Pen for more than 25 years, and even after than the tip of the pen will not be dull as a normal pencil does today.

Come to think of it, the pencil is not actually a pencil. Here the picture looks like it is written by a pencil, but an eraser of any sort will not erase it from the blank white paper.

This stainless steel production is a product of Grand Illusions and costs nearly 30$ USD to buy. But if you really think about it, if you never lose this pencil, you will be saving more than that much amount of money by never ever having to buy a pencil. (unless you lose it.)

The key thing here is that you WILL lose it, no matter how hard you try, and regardless of how careful you keep it with you, it will just be natural law to lose it. So, you must remember that keeping this pen at hand at all times is a key fact of keeping the pencil.

Some questions that it brings up is whether or not this pencil is #2. Does it work on the standardized tests for college students, and also high school students? Will it write on your hand? How about your forehead? Will it write on the wall, and many more things in life? What do you think?

Nokia’s “Remade” concept

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

The Remade concept phone has a case made from recycled aluminium cans, old plastic bottles and car tyres for the rubber keys. Nokia boss Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo showed the phone off yesterday at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, which our mates at CNET.co.uk have been covering first-hand.

The Finns’ design was created to see if it was possible to make a phone “from nothing new”, though the chipset and electronics inside clearly wouldn’t be made from old tin cans. On the plus side, it is designed with energy saving in mind. The engineers behind it claim to have designed a way of cutting the power used to back-light the screen, which is usually responsible for over half a phone’s battery use.

You see, the Nokia concept phone has potential of being a phone to use in the future, but the ugly casing that is around it just makes it look Shrek ugly. The creators need to go out with a more flash red or black. Making it any color besides puke green will do the trick, but I guess thats what you get for being the best of the technology world (You choose the color & design)

Some say it looks a communication transmitter from the Star Trek series, but I say it looks like a Power Ranger morpher, maybe I’m just biased. :P Regardless, the phone is yet to come out, but there are people ostensibly waiting for Nokia’s release as it will be a good one, assuming they let people have it in different colors. I have a Nokia, myself, and it works absolutely wonderful, but its not like I paid any money for it, it was the free one you got with the plan. Thats the thing with phones, you really don’t need them to go on the internet or anything else. I can see a phone playing music, but besides that its really over accessorized.

By watching this video you’ll notice (or if you didn’t I’ll just say it here :P ) that the flip phone seems to be really floppy. The one I have right now is not so floppy, and thats the way it should be. But as you can also notice, the phone color is not going to make that big of a difference as its really even hard to see the green on the bottom portions of the phone. So, whether this phone will come out soon or not is the real question. How many of you would actually think about purchasing a phone such as this?

Rinspeed’s sQuba

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

An electric motor with powerful torque drives the rear wheels. The propulsion on the water is ensured by two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow propel the vehicle under water while diving. With zero emissions, zero pollution in the seven seas of this world. The light weight body with components made of futuristic Carbon Nano Tubes encloses in a streamlined manner the driver and passenger who are supplied with fresh breathing air by the self-contained on-board system.

(says Hypediss)

Rinspeed already got our attention with the concept for its fully submersible sQuba vehicle, but now that they’ve actually gone and built a fully working prototype we’ve really got to hand it to ‘em. As you can see above, the vehicle is pretty much in line with the concept images, with the always-versatile Lotus Elise serving a base. Of course, that has gone under plenty of modifications, including the addition of two Seabob jet drives, and two extra motors to power ‘em, to say nothing of the salt-water resistant interior and DARPA Challenge-tested driverless laser sensor system. Of course, while it’s definitely a lot farther along than the last time we saw it, the sQuba’s still apparently nowhere being available to the general public, no matter how deep-pocketed they might be. Be sure to hit up the read link below for plenty of pics and an appropriately cheesy video, and look for the car itself to make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

(says Engadget)

Rinspeeed is almost as cool as the Mach 5 Jet plane we were talking about earlier today. It may not go as fast, but as long as you have air to breath under water, you will be just fine as it supports the ability to drive underneath water. So, a few controversial questions and risk as arise as i look at the new technolgoy.

Such as what happens when you run out of gas under water? Doesn’t it just die and then sink to the bottom? What about protection? Are sharks going to attack the vehicle when you are driving your car in the Atlantic Ocean, what about the Pacific Ocean ? :P Just kidding about that last one. Does the car come with scuba diving gear? Do you have to have a certain license to drive the car underwater? How much is this car?

The last question I’m not sure about, but I’ve heard that it costs nearly half a million, which is not too bad for a car that can drive underwater. However, its not like I’ll be looking for this car when I go to buy the next car, its still under the lights at the Geneva Car show taking place in the near future. The ultimate design is actually made in Europe, so you would have to ship the car here before you could actually drive it.

So, what do you think now? Buy a car that has internet? or buy a car that can drive under water ? Of course, keep in mind that the risks of living in both of them are severly less than a normal Toyota Camry. :P

Nubrella

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

With its new aerodynamic oval design with extended coverage wind now flows over and around the canopy thus completely denying the possibility to invert. No more struggling to maintain your umbrella in the proper position. Simply strap on the shoulder support and walk completely hands free even in significant winds. Also with the extended coverage you will be completely protected from wind chill and extreme cold. You will be amazed on how much warmer you will feel while using your nubrella.

With its sleek futuristic oval design, nubrella will be seen as the new “must have fashion accessory around the world. Nubrella has removed the pole from the middle so now you can be in the best position for maximum coverage. Again, with this new revolutionary sleek design, say goodbye to the “bobbing effect on the busy sidewalks of metroplitan cities.

(says Nubrella.com )

Well, I know looks are not everything in life, but you would not catch me wearing this umbrella. No umbrella for me. None-brella for me. (okay, enough puns… :P ) If you read the Style quote, what it says is exactly what I don’t believe in. There is no way that the umbrella can be in style. Now, if you are a hot young woman walking down the street, you’d look just fine, because its not the umbrella people are going to be looking at, but if you are just an alright looking guy, then, this umbrella is not what you want people seeing you in.

In fact, its probably the last thing you want your friends seeing you in. Its definitely not worth the 60 USD you have to pay for it, you’re better off getting a bring pink umbrella. If thats the attention you want, get that, but this numbrella is not what you want. :P Sure, the girl in the picture down below looks good when she is wearing it, but she is a model, she’s supposed to look that good. Besides, its not like the umbrella is the main focus that I look at when looking at the picture.

There is not much else here, but if you do purchase one of these, I will be the person on the street not laughing at you, so don’t punch me in the face :!: And also, good luck in life with this. :P

Feel free to leave any comments or thoughts that come to you as all are welcomed and appreciated. :D

Toyota Yaris SR

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Chuck the Yaris into a corner and it responds obediently, tucking in as you lift off and pushing wide as you apply more throttle. Stiffer anti-roll bars have been fitted, while dampers have been sharpened and 8mm shaved off the ride height. Yet, strangely, the SR offers the kind of handling you would expect from a standard Yaris; a performance model really should raise the bar further. It’s also a shame that Toyota has engineered the SR’s stability control to play such an active role, especially as it can’t be switched off.

At £12,995 the Toyota isn’t attempting to compete with the likes of the Clio 197, but it’s still got tough budget competition in the shape of the Suzuki Swift Sport, Fiat Panda 100HP and the recently introduced Clio 138 (see right). Certainly, the SR is a capable and affordable all-rounder, but what we really need is a Yaris GTE…

(says Evo Car Review)

What about the removable dock that Engadget is talking about down here? What if we want that? Well, I suppose all you’ll have to do is ask, besides that it seems like a pretty lean car to have in the UK. Only thing that I wish that would be changed with is that it should have a bigger screen to dock to. Inseat of wasting space by makng the dock for the TomTom, just put a bigger and easier readable touch screen there, and put the TomTom dock somewhere it can be tucked away out of site, yet still have its recharging capabilities, and be easily accessible.

As discussed earlier today, the technology introduced in cars today is a good way to go, but sometimes it can lead to unwanted problems. I see that cars have enough problems these days, and I’m sure that we don’t need computer virus problems to go with these cars, however it does make the job of being a mechanic more computer oriented.

Think about it, one day when the cars all are out of computers, the mechanic will be the person you see today at Geek Squad. :P Funny to think about, but there is a little bit of truth in it as you can see. Mobile things are good, its just when the become inconvient, they lose thier sense as mobile devices. This car is not an example of one of those devices, but the car mentioned previously today is.

So, wait a second, have you heard about the Mach 5 A2 Plane? Check out an earlier post to see whats cooking there :!:

Please leave a comment if you have any questions as all are welcomed and appreciated :D

A2 Supersonic Jet

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

This plane should also be nice with our environment. [As] “it’s hydrogen-powered, so it produces only water vapor and a little bit of nitrous oxide as exhaust. And although a hypersonic jet loaded with liquid hydrogen might sound dangerous, hydrogen fuel is actually no more explosive than normal jet fuel. And don’t think it will be a small plane. You can see above how big the A2 Mach 5 plane will be if you compare it to today’s biggest commercial plane, the Airbus A380

Here it is. The fastest airplane that is not built yet, but don’t worry, just give it another 25 years and you will be able to fly to Australia in under 5 hours. The fascinating thing about this MACH 5 Engine is its productivity; it is hydrogen powered, running efficiently with our economy, and while it is nearly one half the width of a normal Boeing 747, it is also almost two thirds longer than the 747, which means that it may need extra space to take off. But worry not, the 4 engines built on to the plane will make sure it takes off in nearly the same space allocated for a 747.

How much is it you ask? HA, just sit back and laugh while I tell you the price of this.

This estimate assumes hydrogen fuel derived from water electrolysis whereas the ticket price would roughly halve if the hydrogen is produced by steam reforming. Also the analysis assumes no hydrogen subsidy, however in reality it is likely that the first generation of hydrogen fuelled aircraft would be subsidised to promote the switch to a more environmentally friendly fuel.

(Says ReactionEngine, link posted here)

They say that it has the potential of nearly halving the price we pay now for 22 hour flights, mostly because of the hydrogen powered engine. THe MACH 5 is something all pilots look foward to driving, but I suspect that only a limited number of drivers are allowed for a plane that fast. I’m not much of a lfyer, but I can’t wait for this thing to come out in flying colors. I may just book a flight to Australia just for this plane. I’m willing to wait 25 years though (just as the rest of us should be) because its not like the most immediate thing that I look foward to. Of course, if I took my ever-so-powerful Green Laser pointer with me, I’m sure I could have fun with that.

Mach 5 Airplane… but will it blend :?:

LG’s 13.3-inch P300

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Just released in Korea, the LG XNote P300 laptop is turning some heads, sporting faux tiger stripes and an awesome 13.3-inch LED backlit 1,280 by 800 display managed by NVidia Geforce 8600M graphic card with 256MB VRAM. The XNote P300 also brings to the table (or, more appropriately, to the lap) a Core 2 Duo processor (2.4 GHz) T7500, 2GB RAM, and other features include WWAN, HDMI, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. The practically wafer-thin XNote P300 laptop weighs only 3.5 lbs., and comes with an ergonomic keyboard. Buy it for $2,785. LG.

(Quote brought to you by Laptoppicker)

Well, there you have it. People in Korea can get their hands on a better Laptop than I can. What is up with that? I want an LG laptop. I don’t know about you guys, but I can say that LG is a pretty good company, I used to have a LG phone, and it was incredible. I can’t imagine what a laptop of theirs would be like to have.

The laptop stats above are not that bad. With a 2.4 GHz processor, and 2GB Ram, except for the fact that the laptop may be a little over priced. I would not pay 3 grand for something that i can make by myself into a desktop computer. Unless you really, (and I mean desperately) need a laptop that can handle the top games out there. I do like the fact that it competes with Apples Macbooks, with being a 13.3 inch monitor. For some reason, it is always better to have the smallest laptop than the biggest desktop computer.

However, if you are going to want to have such a powerful computer, you would want to make it a desktop computer, it will be able to handle the load better than a laptop. If you think about it, laptops can only handle so much because they are made to be portable. In a sense, one can translate this into the meaning that laptops should not be 24 hours/day computers.

Yes, please give a hand to the 2 young & beautiful women holding the LGs. Life is good when you have women & technology in the same picture right :?:

BMW’s ConnectedDrive

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

BMW ConnectedDrive is an innovative concept from the BMW Group that develops the technology of tomorrow for the automobiles of today. Focussing on the intelligent integration of driver, car and surroundings, the five services BMW Assist, BMW Online, BMW Tracking, BMW TeleServices and Driver Assistance combine to form a single, all-encompassing support network. BMW ConnectedDrive gives you a unique range of mobility - for sheer driving pleasure, today and tomorrow.

I agree. With the new innovation of having internet established in the car, there are definitely going to be newer things coming out. Wait, wait… How is a driver supposed to access the internet if he hes driving himself, there is not really a safety feature with the internet is there? They just assume that you have a passenger in the seat next to you when you drive right? Its worse than being on your overly priced iPhone when you are driving, but at least you can move the phone to wherever you want, with the new BMW models, the Internet is stationary in the car.

Some inconveniences might be this, but overall, I believe the intent for the car is well stated. Its not like they are out there to kill you, they are just boosting the amount of technology they spend in the cars these days. Everyone loves technology, so I can see this as a motive to buy the next BMW car. (Not that I have one right now :P )

One thing that leaves questions in my mind are where and how is the internet going to be provided? Assuming BMW would take care of that, I thinks its a pretty good navigator. I mean, it just tells you where you are going, and if it doesn’t you can just use google maps to find out, and if not, you can always look up what you don’t know while you are driving.

So, with the internet now in the car, what else do you want :?:

Talk about Mobility :P

I’ve always needed something other to feed my technology hunger. For some reason, I find myself regretting myself buying the iPod that I have right now. I don’t even use it anymore because my phone has become the primary use for music. I see tons and tons of people wearing their iPods as if they were modeling for something, but to me, they just look like little human advertisements running around for Steve Jobs.

So, in times like these, I wish I had myself bought a Song Walkman, one of the ones that look sleek and are not overpriced like the Apple company. It is really convenient to have something besides an iPod because everytime I want add music to the mp3 player, I have to be on my own itunes on my computers. If I try to access it on other computers, it always does something that you don’t really want it to do.

The best resolution to this is the simply drag and drop feature that all Sony Walkman/mp3 players allow. At a time like this, I just wish I could put all my 20+ GB of music in my phone for easy browsing, of course that is not going to happen because my Nokia phone is just one that can barely hold 2 GB.

So, what do you think? Is Apple really worth it now :?:

iPhone Giveaway at … ?

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

What if there was a school that handed out iPhone’s to students who attended their college or University. Well, hey, it looks like Abilene Christian University is already doing this to encourage students to go to their colleges. Heck, I would go to this college just to get the iPhone and then maybe drop out a few days after recieving the iPhone. I’m sure this is not how this works, I’m sure there is more that you have to do to fully get the iPhone at the college.

Apparently, the college is using iPhones to send out reminders and text messages remind students about the upcoming events in college as well as taking in class surveys to access the students knowledge database. I wish our college would do that, but there is no way that is going to happen. Unless Steve Jobs feels like giving out iPhones to us for free, (which he is less likely to do than cheerios), its never going to happen.

However, I could see an inconvenience in this is gratification. What if they decided to take attendance with the iPhones, maybe there is some way they can right now that they are just not telling us, which could be bad news to the students at Abilene will or could potentially face. At times like these, it is best to look at how far technology has brought us and forget about its inconveniences.
