Dating Through Your Mobile Phone

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

Gone were the days when you had to write to people to meet up. Gone were the days when your old spinster aunt blind dates you with another one of her colleagues’ single friends. Now, we can find dates and even love through technology. And the mobile phone service of finding dates is one thing that is surely making waves.

You now do not need to go strut your stuff at the club or the bar. You can be at a resto eating your dinner or at home watching TV. All you need is your mobile phone and MatchMobile. Well, that is until the service is launched.

This mobile phone dating service would be available first in the US, UK, and in Canada and it would then be spreading out to some other countries. All you have to do is pay an extra 5 bucks per month and you’re off to a great search for ‘the one’.

Finding Love Through Mobile Phones

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Mobile phones have been one of the best things ever created so much so that you have this one handy dandy gadget wherein you can store information, communicate with others, as well as find information you need. And yes, now, the mobile phone allows you to find love even.

Finding love through your mobile phone has been made possible by quite a number of companies which offer dating services - just like what Juston Payne, 27 years old, had experienced.

He just logged on to this mobile phone dating service (like Meetmoi). He was then given profiles and he chose one that was near his location and was quite interesting to him. Soon, they were exchanging SMS and then met up for a drink and some fun.

As per this development, Andrew Weinreich, the founder of Meetmoi, says, “There’s a paradigm shift in dating. With online dating, you’ve got to sit in front of a computer, e-mail someone, get an e-mail a week later, arrange a date, pick the place. Too much hassle. Now you can flirt with or meet someone instantly.â€?

Iris Scanner To Protect Your Mobile Phone

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

So we have heard of tons of mobile phone applications which would allow users to protect their phones from people who would like to go delve into what information your phone stores. I’ve heard of those who would ask you for your fingerprint before the gadget would allow you to access all information and use all features of the phone.

Now if you are the kind of person who has much to keep in your mobile phone, then you would be glad to know about Oki Electric’s new project. See, the company is in the process of developing and creating a new mobile phone technology - iris recognition. As long as your mobile phone has a camera, you may be off and ready to use this technology.

The creators of the technology are saying that you can simply download the application to your mobile phone as long as your gadget uses the Windows Mobile platform or the Symbian platform.

Google, Onto Mobile Phone Search Applications

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Someone who knows about a new project in Google spilled the beans. Although he did declare that he wanted to remain anonymous, this person did reveal that Google Inc. is currently in the process of creating a new application and service for mobile phone owners and users.

This service, when completed, would enable users to purchase items as well as search for bric-a-brac while using their mobile phones. Other than that, this Google mobile phone search application would also allow users to look for companies where they could purchase the items that they have been eyeing.

Eric Schmidt is the company’s CEO and he did say last May that “many people in the next five to 10 years, their first experience in the Internet will be through a mobile phone. And this would probably be the company’s way of introducing the internet through their mobiles.

Although Google has still kept mum about this, there are plenty of people who are sure quite excited at this itty bit of news.

XS2TheWorld: Speaks and Transforms Your Mobile Phone Into A Phrasebook

Friday, July 13th, 2007

What can make the mobile phone extra special for the traveler? The XS2TheWorld.

The XS2TheWorld is the very first of its kind in the whole industry of mobile phone applications. This gadget, once you own it, is going to be your lifeline especially if you are always touring other nations on leisure or on business. You see, this mobile phone supports seven languages and it contains around 300 of the most used phrases. Just find your phrase and it will speak out the phrase for you in the language you want.

Invented by Sander Munsterman, the XS2TheWorld seems to be totally exciting. The inventor shares, “Phrase books are dead. Even if we can find the words we need in a phrase book, trying to ask where is the nearest cash machine is in Mandarin is beyond most of us. The ability of the mobile to speak clearly for you has shown some amazing results. People warm to you. It becomes a point of interest and communicating and getting what you want much simpler.

Mobile Phones and Make-Up

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

People who use make-up are sometimes annoyed with those consultants you find at departments who seemingly would “help you out find the make-up color that would complement your complexion. As much as you need their help in choosing the right one, they can sometimes get too pesky.

If you need help and yet you don’t need them consultants, you can be happy to learn about this new kind of technology from Hewlett-Packard (HP) which could help you choose which make-up is going to suit your complexion - all right through a mobile phone technology.

Your mobile phone camera would take your picture while you hold this special color chart. Then the photo would be sent to a service. After a few seconds, you would then be receiving a message telling you which make-up would look good on you. Nina Bhatti, the main person behind this, shares, “For those who shop for cosmetics, this technology gives them a virtual beauty consultant in the palm of their hands.

The Games You Can Play

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

We all know that mobile phones are simply not just used for sending and receiving messages and not also just for taking and making calls. The use of mobile phones have evolved into something more.

One of the most popular uses of the gadget (aside from the two main functions given above) is for entertainment. And what would be more entertaining than playing games?

Most mobile phones come with pre-installed games. However, if you have gone tired of playing with the usual, you can actually purchase and download some of the best mobile phone games online.

For example, Gameloft allows mobile phone users to check out the latest games that they are offering the market. You can choose which game would best suit your type of game - action, cards, adventure, RPG, and a whole lot more.

Of course, it would be important that you first check if your mobile phone would be compatible with the game you have chosen. You see, there are some mobile phones which would not run smoothly on one unit and would run quite so nicely on another.

YouTube On Your Phone?

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Honestly, I love YouTube and I am addicted to it. I know most of you are too.

So what if I told you that I heard that one of the co-founders of YouTube is now promising the public and all of its users that it would soon be giving access to the site to mobile phone users and their gadgets. Nice, huh?

Such an announcement was given by Steve Chen in Taipei. He mentioned such during a talk he gave at a forum of web enthusiasts focusing on Internet development. And he also did say that such a service would be available soon. How soon, you ask? I’ll let you in on a secret: it starts next year!

He also was proud to mention that there would be different types of videos from YouTube that one could access. If you were taking a short commute, you may want to watch those short clips that could range around 30 seconds to a minute. But if you are on a long journey, there are those 10-minute clips that you could enjoy.

Saving Leopards With Mobile Ringtones

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

That sounded like a cow. Now that sounds like a goat. And I think it sounds like a fowl. Well, those are just ringtones. They’re actually not real animals. And the officials of India’s wildlife in Gujarat are using these mobile phone ringtones to actually help save the leopard (as well as keep the animal’s population just right).

They have thought of tricks so as to keep these wild animals away from the villagers though. They did try using real animals but they discovered that the sounds from ringtones actually do lure the huge cats and so the officials can keep them safe in cages.

“The moos of a cow, bleating of a goat from the phone has proved effective to trap leopards… This trick works, exclaims Vasani who works as a senior official for the wildlife.

Well, this just goes to show that mobile phones are not only used for communication but it can also be used to save wildlife animals like the leopard.

You’ll Need Your Mobile For O2 Wireless Fest

Monday, June 4th, 2007

If you have been quite the environmentalist, then you would be very happy to note that this year’s O2 Wireless Festival is going to go quite along without you using up too much paper. You see, all you need is your mobile phone and that would be your ticket to the event.

You would also be needing your mobile phone for other perks. That is, if such plans do go through. According to the organizers, they are working out a system wherein all you need is to swipe your mobile phone on some screens and you can get some drinks, download all those files you fancy, as well as send some interesting information to those new-found friends.

Stuart Galbrait is the managing director for Live Nation, the organizer of the event, and on these plans, he expresses, “Mobile phones have become even more integral to people’s lives, providing a host of information readily available at their fingertips. Mobile ticketing provides the consumer with an effective tool to prevent ticket touting and above all else is an environmentally friendly way to enjoy their favorite concert.â€?

Beep! Beep! (That’s Your Mobile Phone Telling You To Be Careful On The Street)

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Mobile phones have been one of the leading causes of accidents not only for drivers and motorists but also for pedestrians. You see, this happens when we are so engrossed at sending a message or reading an SMS or checking out what’s happening online on our mobile phone that we forget that we are in a dangerous zone - cars are speeding all around us.

Now so as to alleviate such a problem, there is one Japanese company, OKI, who is currently working up on a new kind of technology for mobile phones. This new one would actually alert and constantly remind pedestrians about being careful when in the outside jungle. This new technology would be used on mobile phones as well as on vehicles that come with the DSRC (meaning Dedicated Short Range Communications) technology.

If you are a pedestrian, you would be feeling your mobile phone vibrate if you come in the range of a vehicle around 150 meters of your vicinity. And if you are a driver, your GPS system would tell you through voice warnings that there is a pedestrian in your midst.

I think this one’s to be released in 2011 in Japan.

Equip Your Phone With The Google Calendar

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

In this modern day and age where everything seems to be going so fast you have to catch your breath, we do need to get organized. There are tons of events happening here and there you sometimes get to jumble up all the right details and end up attending none.

So just in case you may need some help, I think Google calendar has already made available its calendar service - nope, not straight to your computer but actually right through your mobile phone. As long as your mobile phone can access the internet, you can just visit the site calendar.google.com and you’ll be on your way to organizing your activities and remembering all those important moments.

I think you could also store in your mobile Google calendar other information like your contact’s phone information, the date, the time, where the event is going to take place, who’s going to be there, what you need to prepare, etc. etc.

Cool, huh?

China Gets English Lessons From Nokia Handsets

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Not all people do know how to speak English. And not all people even do know how to understand that language. And this is perhaps one reason why Nokia, one of the mobile phone industry’s largest companies, is sending out a service which would allow Chinese Nokia handset users to learn the English language through their phones. This is according to a reported found on the Wall Street Journal.

Nokia calls this new language service of theirs the Mobiledu which is described by the company’s director for marketing in China, Marko Vanska, as “a Chinese service at the moment, but there is no limitation. Of course, this would part of Nokia’s strategy to have a greater share of the large Chinese mobile phone market.

Vanska even does continue to talk about Mobiledu by stating, “We start here because we see education as very important to Chinese culture. Together with the trend of mobility, we think this is a good time to launch the service.

Catch Those Fish, Use Your Mobile Phone

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

No this is not some kind of joke. You can actually catch some fish and your mobile phone can aid you do that feat.

So now I got your attention. Well, according to the SK Telecom of South Korea, they have been able to create this kind of technology which would tell fishermen just where those fish are.

To do this, they had to create a sensor which had to be water. This sensor would then be attached to the tip of a fishing line. Anything that the sensor picks up would be sent to the mobile phone. That way, the fisherman holding the mobile phone would be able to track just where he would be able to catch quite a huge number of fish.

But this is not the only thing that the mobile phone fishing technology gives you. You see, information like the current water temperature would also be on display.
