HP Special Edition

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

If your looking for the ultimate power machine, you might want to take a look at the special editions of HP notebooks or laptops. The notebooks come in two different colors, a light brown with black, or the Snow white with Silver. If you can find one that is extremely cheap, then its a pretty good deal

Just the other day, I was looking to buy a laptop, and unlike the other laptops (Toshiba, IBM, Sony, & Dell) the HP came with a 3 GB RAM. Think about it! 3 GB RAM !!! The max a regular PC can have is 4 GB of Ram, but this notebook is already carrying a 3 GB RAM. It is truly something that no other laptops really come with.

Along with the normal 3 USB Ports for your leisure, the HP Pavilion comes with Lightscribe Technology and has a Dual Layer Disc Writer. Its quite a deal that you are getting with the 3 GB of Ram. Of course, the only downfall of the notebook is that it only contains a Centrino Duo, and not a Core 2 Duo. :(

Of course, what does that matter when you are holding a 3GB RAM, 14.1 inch. Screen, and touch-enabled media buttons. Thats right! Touch-Enabled. There are no buttons, its almost like having a touch screen on the keyboard.

When talking about mobility, this is one that comes in real handy, as it can fit into nearly any sized backpack. Now-a-days, nearly everything comes with Vista, so whether you like it or not, the Pavilion comes with Vista Home Premium, which at the moment doesn’t seem so bad. Of course, the decision is up to you. The HP costs less than one grand, and if you catch the deal at its prime, it can be found for nearly 700.

Did I forget to mention that the HP comes with a remote, pre-installed webcam, and microphone? Well, I was getting so excited about the Lightscribe, it must have fled my mind. :P I haven’t actually seen the piece in hand, but apparently, it has a pretty loud speaker system.

Now, here is when I leave the decision up to you? Ultimate Notebook or not:!:

Verizon Wireless Now Connected To HP’s Wireless Notebook

Once HP announced its built-in no-card-required wireless laptop (nc6400) in partnership with Cingular, it seems HP couldn’t wait to hook up another carrier.

HP’s press release a few days ago mentioned not one word about any carrier other than Cingular.  But it’s clear now that this was never meant to be an exclusive, because we’ve already caught this spread for Verizon Wireless’ “Notebook Meets Network”.

The price point for the notebook ($1,549 after “instant savings”) is virtually the same as the Cingular deal.

So if the convenience of having wireless capability “built in” to your notebook is worth something to you, as opposed to having to use a card, you now have two choices of carrier.  Verizon Wireless would have high speed access available in more places at this moment, although Cingular’s 3G network seems to be growing fast.

Skip The Cards & Hotspots: HP Laptop With Built-In Cingular 3G Broadband

Monday, December 11th, 2006

nc6400.jpgThe headline is: “First mobile global broadband notebook PC in the U.S.”

For the first time, a U.S. wireless company is going to market PCs the same way it markets handsets.  Cingular is partnering with HP, to build in wireless modules in HP Compaq nc6400 notebook computers, with tri-band UMTS and GPRS/EDGE capability, and HSDPA third generation high speed data where it’s available - according to Cingular, that’s 145 major metropolitan areas and growing.

You can buy the wireless module at the same time you buy the PC, or later.  At initial pricing, the wireless-enabled notebooks will start at about $1,600.  The broadband connect unlimited service will run you $60 a month.  Cingular is also offering North American and global data packages - not unlimited - 100 megabytes a month for $109 and $139 respectively.

Availability is expected by the end of the year.

Cingular Finds Its Way To Partnership With TeleNav GPS Service

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

telenav.jpgIf you were reading today’s earlier post about the new HP iPaq hw6920 series phones and you caught the mention of GPS, you may have wondered who the service provider for GPS was going to be.

Here’s the answer.  Cingular is rolling out a partnership with TeleNav, which provides turn by turn GPS service for Sprint Nextel and a few other providers.  Anyone with Cingular service and the appropriate GPS-enabled device (like the aforementioned HP phones) can sign up for $9.99 a month for unlimited trips.  If you don’t take unlimited trips, you can buy a package of ten trips for $5.99.

HP’s “Me Too” Smartphone: iPAQ hw6920 Series For Cingular

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

HP.jpg

The new wave of smartphones from Motorola, BlackBerry, Nokia and Palm lately has all but swamped smaller, business-focused players like HP.

HP’s new iPAQ hw6920 series puts them back in the running.   Running Windows Mobile for Pocket PC, it has just about all the alphabet-soup technologies you might be looking for:  GSM/GPRS/EDGE/GPS/WiFi plus Bluetooth.  (GPS service required.)

But it hasn’t got that slenderiffic form factor of the new-wave phones like the Motorola Q (the HP is 18mm thick versus 11.5 for the Q) but there are users who’d rather have something big enough to provide a more comfortable keyboard and more to hold on to.  It’s certainly heavier to hold - 179 grams versus 115 grams for the Q.

HP is clearly less worried about form factor, and all about designing PDA phones for business.  Which is why there will be two versions of this phone - one with a camera, and one without - for security-conscious businesses.  The phone will be available “soon” - directly from HP, or you can get it straight from Cingular’s business unit, at a price (we’re told) of about $360 with a two year deal.
